POETRY WITCH COMMUNITY

One of my virtual clients during the pandemic was the fabulous Annie Finch–poet, scholar, author, editor, performer, teacher, feminist, and founder of the women & gender non-conforming online community poetrywitch (dot org). When the coaching work came to a close, I became a member of PWC, and she, my mentor in “post-modern formal poetry”. As one of the earliest members, my role was varied and has been a wonderful virtual project to support and be supported by during pandemic isolation.

Annie and I collaborated in an experimental virtual workshop within PWC, which combined Annie’s “Magically Rhythmic Writing” with trauma-informed somatic contemplations. The process supports the release of negative messages trapped in the physiology.

I curated an experimental class in PWC, that I call MemoFusion; a hybrid form of personal narrative.
MemoFusion will be offered as part of a fall, ’22.

Let us know if you are interested. Stay tuned!!

The screenshot above is a Goddess-infused play that Annie wrote about rape and abortion,
performed on Zoom, if you can believe that!  (Annie top center and Centa Therese bottom center)

As a free-verse poet having an interdisciplinary Masters (modern poetry & studio art), I never studied meter and form and am now learning for the first time, with Annie Finch as mentor. I have a shelved (free verse) manuscript, soon to be seeking a publisher! Check back later in the year!

"The soul, tethered as she is to this mortal world, seeks release from its betrayals, longings, limitations in the ecstasy of flight. In this remarkable collection of lyric and prose-poems, Through Portals of Avian Dreaming, Centa Theresa Uhalde reveals the life of “something wingless” that knows “only by dream what it is to fly.” Here are poems of deep mystery; poems of such incantation, they light up all the senses; and images bathed in the duende of the unconscious, pulling poet and reader alike into the current of a parallel reality where we are “stolen/by the bones of light rising/past the known.” Read these poems with wonder and pleasure, and like da Vinci, we’ll walk the earth with eyes turned skyward, “singing each other home."
